A temporary traffic signal is coming to the intersection of US 50 and the Airport Access.
Morton Electric, Inc. was awarded the contract to install a temporary traffic signal at the intersection of US 50 and Airport Access, for three years, or until a permanent signal is installed. The contracts was awarded with a price tag of $567,729.30.
“We are listening to the public regarding the concerns driving out of the airport onto Highway 50,” said Montrose Regional Airport Director of Aviation Lloyd Arnold. “It’s tough for drivers, especially the majority who are turning south onto the highway. This new signal will make merging much smoother and safer.”
At this time, plans are already underway for a permanent solution. “We’re 90% finished with the design for a new permanent signal,” Arnold mentioned. “It will be located at the intersection of Industrial Drive and US 50, giving drivers even better access to the airport.”
This is a major win for both drivers and the airport. The temporary signal will provide immediate relief while the permanent solution takes shape. The temporary signal is expected to be up and running soon, paving the way for a safer and more efficient future for airport access.
