In less than a month, Montrose will be getting down for St. Patrick’s Day, and for the first time, there will be a public event to celebrate the holiday.
The Black Canyon Homebrewers Association, in coordination with Horsefly Brewery, will hold the first-ever St. Patrick’s Day Parade and Brewfest on Saturday, March 16, right outside Horsefly on Junction Avenue.
Featured will be a non-motorized parade to kick things off, then live music, food and, most importantly, beer.
“We got all the necessary paperwork done, and the city is very enthusiastic about us putting this on,” said David Sinton, vice president for the Black Canyon Homebrewers.
The idea was that of the club’s president, Eric Svensen.
“Really this time of year, in March, (Montrose) doesn’t have much going on, and we thought this will be much appreciated by the community because it’s filling a hole,” Sinton said.
Horsefly is the major sponsor for the event, which will raise funds for the nonprofit Homebrewers Association.
The parade is open to anyone who wants to join on their bicycle, feet, skateboard, pogo stick or anything else without a motor.
A bicycle decorating pre-parade party will take place at Mosaic, 21 N. Cascade Ave. at 10 a.m., followed by the parade, starting at Centennial Plaza at 11:30 a.m.
From there, the parade will make its way to the street outside Horsefly Brewery, where paradegoers and VIPs will get access to the brewfest 30 minutes early. Those who participate in the parade will also receive $5 off their entry to the beerfest.
The beer will be pouring for everyone else from 1 to 4 p.m.
Entry is $35 at the gate, and non-drinkers can get in for $20.
Music will be performed by Union of None, out of Grand Junction, and around five breweries will be represented.
Horsefly will also be serving its food, along with Subwiches, which will be on-hand selling sandwiches. Sinton said an Irish bakery out of Olathe will also be there, offering Irish soda bread.
