When one thinks of Montrose’s construction industry, longstanding company Sandoval Construction is one of the first to come to mind. Years of hard work and good service has built trust between the contractor and their clients.
Selvin Sandoval, the founder of the company, started the company in 2002. With over two decades in business at this point, Selvin says the company has slowly and surely grown over the years, as he strives to communicate value to everyone he works with.
Years of focusing on quality, earning trust, and long workdays have built the business’ success. “I decided to focus on one thing”, Sandoval said, pointing out the importance of consistency in one’s work, that one thing being the construction industry. “I found if I switched around; I never would grow in any of those areas.”
Sandoval’s work is about 80% residential and 20% commercial projects, and although primarily in Montrose, the company works in the Ridgway and Delta areas as well.
Selvin talked more about how he wound up doing so much work in the housing sector. “People would come to us to ask us to build houses, and after that we started working subdivisions where we started creating floorplans”, he said.
He told some of his story, as a move from another country led to his pursuit of his own business. “I was born and raised in Guatemala, and then my family decided to move to the states. As soon as I got here I started working in construction”, said Sandoval, “I was always working for my goals; working hard.”
Since then, he has not only grown as a businessman, but personally as well. On this, he said, “As I was working I was learning; at the same time, I did learn and grow as a man.”
Over 20 years in business have taught him many of the keys to success. He talked over what he has found these keys to be. “We have to have a good service; that’s the main goal. Listen to what the people need.”
For Selvin, choosing the right people for the job is as important as any other part of a project. “My goal is to work with trusted people, I trust that they will do the job for us.” Loyalty is also a cornerstone for Sandoval, saying he and his crew of about 10 employees always stick together.
With many dozens of houses built and more projects on the horizon, it’s a bright-looking future for the company. Mr. Sandoval stated two big ways in which he hopes the company might grow. “My goal is to be maybe our own developer, or expand to different areas.”
