The owners of Steamies Burger Bar in Telluride are planning to open a new restaurant in Montrose this summer.
The restaurant, named Urban Hip-E Fresh Kitchen, is a combination of healthy, fresh eating options.
Owners James and Stanya Gorraiz spoke at Montrose City Council’s regular meeting on Tuesday, May 7, as they asked for approval of a liquor license at the location, 1541 Oxbow Drive Ste. 1000a (the former location for My Favorite Muffin).
“It’s really a high focus on greens and vegetables. (We want to) make it easier for families and people to pick up a dinner that is healthier for them,” Stanya told the city council. “Our business is something really different than Montrose has seen to date.”
Stanya told the Montrose Business Times that one feature of the restaurant is a walk-through salad bar.
“Think QDOBA, but with veggies and greens,” she said.
Other offerings will include flatbreads, poke bowls, açai bowls, ramen, pastas and more.
“We want families to be able to do a chicken Alfredo for four and a large caesar salad, so they don’t have to cook dinner,” she said.
The couple is also putting considerable thought and investment into renovating the space.
“It’s turning out so gorgeous,” Stanya said. “It was fairly dated, and it needed a nice facelift.”
They have installed new wall paneling, new floors and live edge countertops along the windows in the space.
The couple resides in Telluride, but said they love the Montrose community and come here all the time to shop.
“We feel savvy in that we can identify what a community needs, and Montrose needs this kind of food,” Stanya said at the council meeting. “Montrose is primed and ready for something like this.”
The liquor license for the business was approved unanimously.
