The downtown hardware store, Montrose Hardware, is permanently closed, and the building, located at 601 E. Main St. is currently listed for sale at a price of $1.938 million.
It is not immediately clear why the business closed, but the owners of the building (who were leasing the property to the owners of Montrose Hardware, the business) have retaken possession of the building, according to David Reed, an attorney with Dufford Waldeck Law representing the building owners.
Reed declined to comment about whether it was the choice of the Montrose Hardware owners or the building owners to leave the space vacant.
John Renfrow, the real estate agent representing the building owners confirmed the building sustained roof damage, but wouldn’t comment on the extent or whether that had anything to do with the business’ closure. The roof is currently being repaired, he said.
Renfrow directed the Business Times to Reed for further questions.
Reed said he was unable to provide any further information as he takes time to “assess the situation.”
