The Summer of ’24 might go down as the summer of food trucks in Montrose!
Discussion around these tasty treat trailers dominated a healthy portion of the August meeting.
This year, on the third Thursday of each summer month, DART sponsors The Truck Stop on Block 93. Block 93 is the colloquial name for the parking lot between North Townsend and North Cascade between Main Street and North 1st.
On the third Thursday, at the Truck Stop, you can find amazing tacos, pizza, and BBQ as well as cupcakes, shave ice, and other deserts, not to mention middle eastern cuisine and craft coffee and beers. There’s always a good band and a pop-up bazaar has popped up behind Mosaic in the alley. It’s a lot of fun!
And there is something for everyone. The next Truck Stop will be Thursday, Aug. 15 on Block 93. Email Michelle Wingfield for a details: mwingfield@cityofmontrose.org.
Other upcoming events include Second Saturday. This is an effort by businesses downtown along Main Street and the immediate area to remind people that there are things to do and stuff to buy downtown on Saturdays!
As Lizz Martensen said, “There are all these cool things happening downtown, so come on down and check it out.”
There was discussion about adopting a Second Saturday mascot, like the Montrose Mouse (if you know, you know) and a scavenger hunt for kids of all ages.
It’s August. And it’s hot. But it’s never too soon to start planning for Halloween! Montrose loves Halloween—there are dozens of things to do every year, and this year will be no exception.
To wit, on Thursday, Oct. 31 between 3 and 5 p.m., littles can go trick-or-treating along Main Street for candy.
And DART is planning something for adults to follow immediately afterwards. Stay tuned for details on that—or email Michelle for the inside scoop.
Did you know that August 27 is World Rock Paper Scissors Day?
There are entire tournaments put on by a world association, and we’re gonna have one ourselves!
On that Tuesday, come to Centennial Plaza for the RPS Rewind Event with a 1990’s theme. That’s the era of Lite Brite and Spirograph.
Anyone have a Betty Spaghetty still in the box? Details are due from DART soon.
Ed LeViness from Ed’s Fly Shop was a guest host and guide on a filming of The New Fly Fisher, a TV and web series dedicated to fly fishing.
It is now in it’s 24th year of being made and produced by a Canadian company who flew in to explore the Gunnison River.
Ed reports that they were blown away by what Montrose offers the fly fishing world and, at the risk of sharing our little secret, the film will be shown on YouTube in January or February.
DART is looking into hosting a screening for anyone interested in attending.
You can learn more about the film and his trip by contacting Ed LeViness at ed@edsflyshop.com.
Finally, if you know something unique about what’s going on around town—maybe you’ve notice that Tacos and Beer is taking over the former Roosters on Main Street—please feel free to reach out and share that with DART so that we may share it with the rest of Montrose.
Until next month!
