Montrose County unveiled a time capsule capturing a century of local history from the historic county courthouse last Thursday. The capsule was originally placed in the building’s cornerstone on Sept. 15, 1922, and was discovered by Stryker and Co. employees Billy Dean and Zane Brown during the courthouse’s recent renovation.
Last year’s centennial celebration of the courthouse was originally intended to spotlight the time capsule, but county crews couldn’t safely retrieve it without risking the building’s structural integrity, the county said in a recent news release.
The county team will catalog the capsule’s contents and release additional photos of the items found at a later date.
