An Evening of Live Music, Community & Joyful Movement

Step into Ridgway’s Living Room and experience the infectious energy of a traditional Contra Dance at the Sherbino. Whether you’ve danced for years or have two left feet, this is your invitation to jump in.

Enjoy LIVE, driving old-time music from Hard Pressed, straight out of the North Fork Valley, with expert calling by John Unger, who will guide every dance clearly and confidently.

What Is Contra Dance?

Contra is a vibrant American folk dance rooted in European traditions and shaped by generations of community gatherings. Dancers form long lines or sets of four couples and move through a series of repeating figures—all prompted by a live caller.

No partner? No problem.
No experience? Even better.
Every dance is taught, and the 7:00 PM beginner lesson will give you everything you need to feel comfortable on the floor.

Why You’ll Love It

  • Live, high-energy fiddle-driven music
  • Easy-to-learn dances with clear instruction
  • A welcoming, multi-generational crowd
  • Lots of laughter and connection
  • Great exercise without even realizing it

Wear comfortable shoes, bring a water bottle, and come ready to move.

Grab your friends, invite your neighbors, and join us for a night of music, motion, and community at the Sherbino.
