Montrose Regional Health’s pulmonology clinic will continue operating with additional physician coverage while Dr. Andrew Hersh serves on a temporary military deployment, the health system announced in a news release.

Hersh, a pulmonologist at MRH and a 19-year member of the U.S. Air Force, is expected to return in November.

Patients with existing appointments should keep their scheduled visits unless contacted directly by the clinic, according to the release.

MRH said patient evaluations, lung nodule workups and diagnostic testing will continue during Hersh’s deployment. The clinic will also continue using robotic navigation for lung nodule cancer diagnostics. Evaluations for pulmonary valve patients will continue, with procedures tentatively scheduled after Hersh returns.

Board-certified pulmonologists Dr. Heather Howe and Dr. Bruce Suckling will provide coverage during the deployment, along with visiting pulmonologist Dr. Rage Geringer.

Howe will take over Hersh’s lung nodule diagnostic responsibilities with support and mentorship from Geringer, according to MRH. Geringer will focus on the clinic’s advanced diagnostic program and will not see clinic patients. Suckling will support both diagnostic procedures and outpatient care.

Howe has more than 15 years of medical experience and has provided pulmonary care in partnership with MRH for four years. Suckling joined MRH in March after more than 20 years practicing pulmonary medicine in Colorado Springs.

Geringer is a pulmonologist at Cheyenne Regional Medical Center in Cheyenne, Wyoming, and is board-certified in pulmonary medicine and critical care. According to the release, he has more than eight years of experience in pulmonary medicine and was recently named an “Early Career Rising Star to Watch” by CHEST Magazine.
