Maslow Academy of Applied Learning has named longtime staff member Leann Distel as its new executive director, effective Jan. 1, 2026.

Distel was selected following a statewide search and has been with Maslow Academy since 2010. She most recently served as site director for Maslow Academy on Hillcrest, a role she has held since 2022.

“Leann was the unanimous choice of the board due to her proven experience, deep commitment to children and families, and vision for the future of Maslow and Bright Beginnings,” said Board President DoriAnn Adragna via a press release.

Distel began her career with Maslow Academy as a classroom educator and later moved into administrative roles. She holds an Associate of Applied Science in Early Childhood Education from Colorado Northwestern Community College and is Montessori trained.

“What makes Maslow Academy special is our people—the educators who show up every day with passion and dedication, and the families who trust us with their children,” Distel said. “My goal is to support our team, deepen our community partnerships, and stay true to our mission of empowering children to reach their full potential through exceptional early learning experiences.”

Distel succeeds Chrissy Simmons, who led the organization for 15 years and oversaw its expansion from one site to two, including the addition of Bright Beginnings at Colorado Outdoors in 2023. Simmons has transitioned to a position at Colorado Mesa University’s Montrose campus, where she serves as lead IRIS advisor and teaches early childhood education courses.
