The Rimrocker Trail has been added to the Jeep Badge of Honor program’s new Digital Trails tier, giving off-road enthusiasts another nationally recognized route to explore across western Colorado and eastern Utah, according to a Montrose County news release.
The approximately 160-mile trail stretches between Montrose and Moab, traveling through canyon country, mountain terrain, high desert landscapes and remote public lands popular with overland travelers and Jeep enthusiasts.
The addition places the Rimrocker Trail within the Jeep Badge of Honor app, a free mobile platform launched in 2013 that allows Jeep owners to discover trails, connect with other off-road users and earn digital or physical badges for completed routes.
The release states that the Digital Trails designation is intended to provide experienced off-roaders with additional challenges beyond the program’s traditional Core Trail tier.
Trail difficulty ratings in the app are provided through Jeep’s trail guide partner, Trails Offroad, using a scale from one to 10. Jeep representatives said trails are selected based on terrain variety, difficulty levels and community interest.
The Rimrocker Trail is known for its remote travel conditions and expansive scenery, but officials also emphasize the importance of preparation and self-reliance.
Large portions of the route are rough, narrow and steep, particularly between Nucla and Moab, where the trail is recommended only for four-wheel-drive, high-clearance vehicles and off-highway vehicles. Cell service is limited across much of the route.
Trail organizers encourage users to travel with another vehicle when possible, carry maps and emergency supplies, bring extra food and water, and notify friends or family of their travel plans before heading onto the trail.
The route is marked with fiberglass posts featuring reflective Rimrocker Trail logos and directional arrows, though not every intersection is signed. Officials recommend users familiarize themselves with the route in advance before traveling.
