Downtown Montrose will once again fill with costumed trick-or-treaters this Halloween as the annual Candy Crawl returns Saturday, Oct. 31.

The Montrose Development and Revitalization Team is preparing for an estimated 1,500 trick-or-treaters, plus parents and other family members, during the event, which will run from 3 to 5 p.m.

Participating downtown businesses will hand out candy to children, while other businesses and community organizations can set up activities and carnival-style games along the route.

Main Street will be closed to vehicle traffic from Townsend Avenue to Park Avenue from 1 to 6 p.m. for the event.

DART is currently recruiting downtown businesses, community organizations and volunteers to participate.

New this year, volunteers will be available to help downtown businesses that want to participate but don’t have enough staff to have an employee stationed outside handing out candy. Volunteers will remain outside the business rather than entering the storefront.

Volunteers are also needed as crossing guards and to assist with event setup and cleanup. DART is additionally seeking help for its “Great Candy Stuffing” event on Oct. 26.

Candy donations are being accepted at Montrose City Hall. Donations should consist of individually wrapped candy.

Participating downtown businesses will also be able to pick up supplemental candy at City Hall from Tuesday, Oct. 27, through Thursday, Oct. 29. Candy will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.

Businesses will also receive large jack-o’-lantern window clings that can be displayed to let families know the storefront is participating in the Candy Crawl.

Businesses and organizations without a downtown storefront can also participate by hosting a booth with an activity or carnival-style game, such as a ring toss. There is no cost to participate, although informational-only booths will not be permitted.
