Montrose Art Crawl returns for second season downtown

Community News

The Montrose Art Crawl will return for its second season this Thursday in downtown Montrose.

The city’s Development and Revitalization Team (DART) aims at bringing monthly art events, scavenger hunts and interactive exhibits to downtown Montrose troughout the summer months..

The self-guided event series, organized under the Montrose Art Crawl (MAC) banner, will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. on the second Thursday of each month (including this Thursday) from May through September. Organizers say the event is designed to highlight local creativity while encouraging residents and visitors to explore downtown businesses, galleries and public spaces.

Participants can begin the crawl at The Association and follow the route east through downtown before ending at LFMG Music Group.

Along the way, attendees will be able to visit galleries, shops and artist pop-ups while businesses offer extended evening hours.

New this year is the introduction of the Tiny Art Exhibition Series, an interactive public art feature that will place miniature artworks throughout downtown Montrose.

Each month will feature a different theme:

May — Tiny Art Gallery

June — Found and Recycled Art

July — Surrealism and Dreamlike Art

August — Children’s Art

September — Folk Art

Organizers say many of the pieces will be hidden in plain sight as part of a larger downtown scavenger hunt.

The scavenger hunt will encourage visitors to locate public art pieces, artist installations and hidden tiny artworks throughout the event route. Participants can play individually or as teams and are encouraged to post photos from the event on the scavenger hunt’s Facebook page.

Awards will be given in categories including “Most Creative Photo,” “Most Locations Visited,” and “Fan Favorite.”

Businesses participating in this year’s crawl include Montrose Center for Arts, Curiouser Books, Luxe Design, Mosaic, Heirlooms for Hospice and The Coffee Trader, among others.
