News Release | Telluride Fire Protection District
The annual Fourth of July fireworks celebration in Telluride Town Park has been canceled due to extreme fire danger in the area, the Telluride Volunteer Fire Department (TVFD) and the Telluride Fire Protection District (TFPD) announced. The decision was made following a thorough analysis conducted during weekly meetings with state and federal fire and weather officials.
Multiple factors have contributed to the elevated fire risk, including below-average winter snowpack and persistent dry conditions in recent months.
“We go through this process each summer and must always keep the safety of our citizens and visitors first and foremost. We know this cancellation is disappointing, but there is no question that it is the right call,” said TFPD Chief John Bennett.
The Town of Telluride will continue with the Annual Fourth of July Parade on Main Street followed by the Fourth of July Bash in Town Park featuring live music, food vendors, family fun and games throughout the day and a laser and drone show at dusk.
Mountain Village’s Red White and Blues Celebration takes place July 3 and 4 with live music and kids’ activities throughout Mountain Village’s plazas. The celebration will also include a new drone show on July 3 at 9:30 p.m. visible from Mountain Village’s Core.
