The City of Montrose will host its annual Spring Cleanup event April 24–25, offering residents an opportunity to dispose of and recycle certain items at a centralized drop-off location, according to information provided by the city.

The event will run from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. both days at a collection site along the San Juan Bypass (U.S. Highway 50), across from the Sunshine Peak Apartments. The service is available to City of Montrose residents only.

Accepted items include landscape debris such as leaves, grass clippings and limbs less than six inches in diameter, as well as scrap materials and unwanted appliances. Appliances containing Freon will be accepted for a $20 fee.

Items that will not be accepted include routine household trash, hazardous materials, paint, tires, televisions and electronics with glass screens.

This year, the city is partnering with Delta Compost to process green waste collected during the event. A horizontal grinder will be used to convert accepted organic materials into mulch, which will later be made available to the public at no cost.

The city is also partnering with Habitat for Humanity of the San Juans for reuse opportunities. Usable items may be donated to the Habitat ReStore, which will offer extended hours from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. April 24–25.

Residents unable to transport large items may schedule a pickup through Habitat by calling 970-650-2503. Pickup availability is first-come, first-served, though the service is offered year-round.
